Urban Planning Now Part of Bangladesh CAF

The 2024 Summer Session of the Bangladesh’s Climate Application Forum, on 10 June 2024 in Dhaka, convened 54 stakeholders from 14 government sectoral organizations, research institutes, development organizations, NGOs, and media agencies to collectively review the performance of BMD-generated forecasts, share their experiences in applying the same for climate-informing their plans and decisions, and plan for the 2024 monsoon season.

The urban planning sector has–for the first time–joined other sectors in the CAF, opening up avenues for climate-informed urban preparedness planning, on top of the existing climate-informed planning/decision-making in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, water, health, and civil defense, among others. The 2024 Summer Session of the CAF also facilitated agreement among relevant stakeholders on the generation of forecast-based advisories for the humanitarian sector.

Mr. Md. Azizur Rahman, BMD Director, appreciating the CAF for integrating BMD and stakeholder sectors, and articulating his expectation for climate-informed seasonal planning and decision-making among these stakeholder sectors
