SFPs meeting in Nepal highlights importance of sustaining the CARE Component 1-developed DSSs

The Sectoral Focal Persons (SFPs) Meeting of the Component 1 of the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CARE) for South Asia Project, for Nepal, was organized in Kathmandu on 23 December 2024. The meeting convened 24 officials from partner government institutions in Nepal, viz.: the Department of Roads (DoR), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA), and Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).

This SFPs  meeting is subsequent to the SFPs meeting for Nepal held on 27 June 2024. This SFPs meeting builds on Nepal-specific project implementation progress and stakeholders’ recommendations shared/discussed during the last SFPs meeting, and the following months of engagement between RIMES and institutional government partners on the DSSs co-development.

The SFPs meeting, on 23 December 2024 highlighted the developed capabilities of the DSSs for MoALD, DoR, and NDRRMA, the onward work for modules refinement, and the handholding support that RIMES will provide to MoALD, DoR, and NDRRMA from January to July 2025 (remainder of the CARE project term). These include activities necessary in operating, maintaining, and sustaining the DSSs through the regular engagement in capacity building activities, and in documenting utilization of information products. The discussions underlined the importance of the utilization and ownership by the recipient government institutions of the DSSs, their updating of the same by integration of relevant datasets, and for RIMES to continuously provide technical support to integrate latest/enhanced technologies and advancements in science.
